For the new European Investment Bank building in Luxembourg 14 different types of façades are being erected. The main façade on its own consists of a colossal barrel vault of about 14,000m² (151,000ft²) area. The atria are canopied over up to 50m (164ft) without any support.
Three cable façades (2,350m² / 25,232ft²) are constructed in such a way that they can withstand wind pressures by deflecting up to 60cm (2ft). Additionally there is a double skinned façade (4,000m² / 42,950ft²), which will be of wood and aluminum, as well as interior façades with an area of 11,300m². Further smaller façades (6,850m² / 73,550ft²) complete the skin of the building.
Within the consortium the steel-glass façades and the roof elements are completely included in Seele’s scope of works. The detail planning of these constructions from a structural as well as a design point of view is highly challenging.
